Over the last few years Race Events as the first organizer of a E MTB race series with the, firmly believed in this new cycling category ,winning the challenge against all odds and beating all the criticism and suspicious against it. It also leaded the path in the opening of the international borders to the same category as well as actively being a part in the process that brought to the official recognition made by the UCI recently.

Surrounded by the mountains of the Sierra Nevada , oversaw by the race judges sent by UCI and thanks to the precious support of Endurama and Mondraker, last weekend took place in the beautiful location of Granada the first round of the e-Enduro International Series.

It was an incredible two days race endeavour with five special stages on Saturday and four on Sunday, totalling a 50 kilometres race distance over more than 2,000 meters of elevation gain cheered up with sangria, paella and music adequately provided to all the participants.

Andrea Garibbo (Haibike Factory Team Italy) was the winner, followed by Simone Martinelli (Team CicoBikes-DSB-Nonsolofango) second while the evergreen Bruno Zanchi (Team Fristads-Mondraker-DSB) trailed in third position. All the others Italian riders competing in the Italian e-Enduro race series were also on the podium of their respective categories demonstrating once for all that the race experience gained there is fundamental to compete at a top level internationally.

Segio Zurdo, the Chief organizer officer at Endurama commented “We are very proud to be first in bringing to Spain an E-MTB Enduro UCI International Event, making the Spaniard round of the e-EIS possible. It was a great effort to organize it but the payoff is great in terms of the success we achieved. Contrary to Italy, here in Spain we are only at the beginning but it was enough to understand the great potential in store of the e- bike Enduro category for our country. I would like to thank Mondraker for the precious support provided in combination with all the others sponsors, a contribution that permitted us to organize this event. Many thanks as well to the city of Granada hosting the venue and to Race Events that brought here the best 10 Italian e-Enduro riders.

Luca Bortolotti (Race Events Chief of local organizers relationships and race courses oversight) also commented “It wasn’t an easy task to support Sergio from a distant position but after an initial meeting in Madrid with Mondraker Chief Marketing Officer and Race Events’ Cristian Trippa, we were able to set all the milestones to create an event up to the expectations we had in mind. I also have to add that the 2.000 km van trip to Granada was pretty long if I think that I have to drive back the entire distance but being there to support the Endurama team was worthwhile.

Also Franco Monchiero (Race Events Trails Supervisor) commented “It was an epic race! A true international e-Enduro round inserted in the UCI official calendar where we lived a true Enduro experience made of simple things on spectaculars trails expressively conceived for the E-MTB category and not merely adapted. The guys at Endurama did a great job and here at Race Events we gave all our help. We brought to Spain ten of our best athletes in all the categories, to evaluate the competive advantage gained in competing for three consecutive seasons in the Italian e-Enduro race series. The gap is notable but the potential expressed by the athletes coming from all others countries is big and it’s only a matter of time to be filled entirely and timely for the rest of the season. I came here to bring my experience and to execute the mandatory UCI motor conformity checks and it was an unforgiving experience.

The next stop of the e-EIS will be in Valberg – France on the 27th and 28th of July.
