e-EIS Varazze Race Recap

Andrea Garibbo and Federica Amelio are the overall winners of the 2019 e-Enduro International Series

Last weekend, the city of Varazze hosted the final round of the e-Enduro International series race series, first UCI event in Italy exclusively dedicated to the E-MTB Enduro cycling category.

Definitely it was an event of international calibre with athletes coming from Italy, Spain, Australia, Switzerland and France. The riders fiercely competed in an intense two days long race over a 70 kilometres long race course with a cumulated time of 40 minutes of timed special stage segments from the seven stages totalling a 16 kilometres long distance with an elevation gain of 3.000 meters.

On Saturday, the fight between the leader of the e-EIS overall classification Andrea Garibbo (Haibike Factory Team Italy) and the Australian Josh Carlson (Giant Factory Off-road Team) took the central stage, with the Aussie taking the first day provisional leadership with a few secs lead. Among the Women category, Federica Amelio (Haibike Factory Team Italy) was leading day one with a clear advantage over her overall classification opponent Gaia Ravaioli (KTM Alchemist Selle SMP Team).

During Sundays’ race day the story changed slightly. Davide Sottocornola (Cico Bikes-DSB Team) had a strong comeback, gaining precious 4 secs against the other riders and taking the Day 2 provisional lead. But the Davides’ effort was not enough because Andrea Garibbo did not left any room to his opponents, winning the race and the overall e-EIS series in one shot, leaving Sottocornola 2nd and Carlson 3nd on the Varazze podium.

Also Gaia Ravaioli was capable to close the gap cumulated on the first day to win the Varazze round but in the end Federica Amelio 2nd on the podium is the winner of the overall 2019 e-EIS series.

As usual, some testimonies

Marco D’Aliesio – Chairman of Vaze Free Time (City of Varazze Outdoor Activities Management) declared:

It was a great honour to be the host of the first Italian event of the newly born international e-EIS race series and we would like to thank Race Events and all the volunteers that make it possible. This kind of events do a great deal in adding value to our territory and after a two year long investment in e-biking, we are experiencing a record breaking inflow of e-bilkers with great benefits for our economy.

Franco Monchiero – Race Events also stated:

What can I say? Varazze never surprise me! When a city can count on a strong group of dedicated people you can clearly see the results, even in a world where is much easier to criticize, copy or back off than put all your efforts to realize your projects. Marco D’Aliesio and all his guys once again demonstrated their commitment to the city of Varazze and the value of a job well done.
